Post Production 1 - Title Page and Contents Page

After the presenting my project to the class and getting the feedback on what they thought would help the overall flow of my magazine I decided to alter a few things on my title and table of contents page. On my title page I decided to alter the selling lines slightly. I added a selling line that stated, " ". I also went back and added some selling lines that are titles of my article of my magazine over the sand of the main image under the larger text that says, "SAND SUN N' FUN". I also went back and added the month and date at the bottom left in a typography that is very sheik. For my table of contents page I completely redid the style. I kept the typography the same but instead of having one main image I broke the page up to have 3 images with little boxes in the right corner of the image with a number corresponding to the articles that I had in alternating cubes running down the right hand side of the page and along the bottom. I feel like this contributes ...

This week I presented my midterm portfolio project presentation. I was pleased with the feedback I received as most all of it was positive and the issues were more with the styling on some of the pages and text rather than the actual concept. Most of the feedback I got from my classmates was that the pictures were gorgeous. That the pictures on each page represented the article they were associated with or represented the general theme very well. Another aspect of the magazine I was complimented on the typography, many people said that the text had a nice beachy style on the front cover but looked elegant in the content and feature articles. Some of the concerns I received were not centered around the essence of the magazine but rather how I had some pictures and text boxes orientated. On the cover page, I was told that I need to have more teasers to draw readers in and cover the sand portion of the picture with text to keep the ocean part clear but give the readers a sneak p...

Production 6 - Articles

Today, I wrote all the articles that I am including in my magazine. With gorgeous beaches and  the bay surrounding Sarasota, some miss out on the amazing  land locations.  One be ing Oscar  Schere  State  Park,  with wonderful walking trails  all over, it is a great place to get a vacation workout in  the peace and quiet of nature! Oscar  Schere  also has a  part of a lake blocked off for anyone who would like to go for a swim.  There is even a research center for the  children of all ages   to  explore live wildlife and  the nature in the park!  Another awesome outing is the Marie Shelby Botanical Gardens,  with green houses filled with flowers, long pathways going around different  environments ,  an adventure playground. There is  something  for everyone at Shelby gardens and it makes a great   all-day   outing with its bay walkways, jungle adventures ,...

Production 5 - Feature Article

So today I put in three images that I needed for my magazine's 2-page spread. These images are not the same as the main images on my Table of contents and Title page, these images are smaller and more spread out over the 2 pages. So far the 3 images I have are one of a sunset that was taken at a low angle to show the whole landscape, ocean, sky and shells. The other image is a neutral angle of a sun shining behind a cloud. The third image I inserted is of an pink Orchid at Shelby Gardens, I took this image with focusing on the flower to make the flower color pop and the rest of the background seem blurred. all these images and effects are used to create a feeling of nature from all angles of the magazine giving it a very involved and alive feeling.

Production 4 - New Fonts

Today I finally wrapped up the table of contents page. I have been struggling for a while to find a way for the black text to show over the dark blue image. I finally got some inspiration from an issue of Home Style magazines which have their dark text over a white rectangle to make it look more sheik and pop out. I also did this and added a rectangle around the interior of the page to give emphasis to the image and the writing. I also found the perfect font, Perpetua Titling MT. It is sheik but looks really nice with the blue color scheme on that page.

Production 3 - Title Page

Today I mostly focused on the Title page. I imported the photo that I wanted to use which is a picture of the sunset with a calm sea and a pink color scheme. I also made my masthead, "Beyond the Boarder". I used the 2 different styles of typography, Century Goliath for the words "Beyond" and "Boarder" and then Freestyle Script for the "the". I have not got to the selling line yet because I am still working on resizing the Picture to be the main image and fill the whole page. I decided to use this image because it was the one that inspired me the most so I thought that it would make for a great eye catcher for the magazine so that people would see it and be really inspires. Edit* -- I was able to resize the image so that there are heughs of orange and pink in the sky with the water reflecting it and then a little portion of beach that has had footsteps on it.
