Production 6 - Articles

 Today, I wrote all the articles that I am including in my magazine.

With gorgeous beaches and the bay surrounding Sarasota, some miss out on the amazing land locations. One being Oscar Schere State Park, with wonderful walking trails all over, it is a great place to get a vacation workout in the peace and quiet of nature! Oscar Schere also has a part of a lake blocked off for anyone who would like to go for a swim. There is even a research center for the children of all ages to explore live wildlife and the nature in the park! Another awesome outing is the Marie Shelby Botanical Gardens, with green houses filled with flowers, long pathways going around different environments, an adventure playground. There is something for everyone at Shelby gardens and it makes a great all-day outing with its bay walkways, jungle adventures, cultural center and café for lunch. If a hand made pick-nick is more appealing to you and your family, Phillipe Park is the perfect place, with large grassy lawns, a jungle walk, piers for fishing on the intracoastal, a playground and a historical building, its perfect for everybody. 

Adventure Awaits

Every age has that inner longing for adventure! Sarasota couldn't be a more perfect place to let that adventurous spirt run free. One of the largest attractions being the bay, the adventure is endless. For the younger and more spritely they can enjoy all the adventure they want, high in the sky in a rented parasail! another awesome adventure for the whole family is renting a boat or jet ski. these allow the full beauty of the bay to be seen first hand on the water. If that isn't the most appealing sounding adventure there are more! Instead of driving the boat, there are a ton of rental places where visitors can hire a boat and a caption to take them fishing or a dolphin tour. If being on the water exits you but you want a more serene vibe, then there is a perfect option for you! At Turtle beach there is a kayak and paddleboard rental to go through the mangroves and paddle your way to the beach.

Sand, Sun and Fun

Every tropical location has beaches, but none as versatile and exquisite as Sarasota. With Siesta beach being rated the number 1 beach in the untied states its no surprise that the sunsets, ocean and sand are the perfect ingredients for an amazing vacation. However gorgeous Siesta is, it is constantly crowded because of its publicity. If a quieter beach is what you are looking for you are in luck! Just south of Siesta is a less known but beautiful beach called Crescent beach. With a calm ocean it is perfect for the young and the old! and for all those teens and parents, the beach is an awesome place to walk, play a game, go surfing and snorkeling and even walk across the road for some signature ice cream! If you want a more rough waves or some better snorkeling sites be sure to keep heading south until you get to Turtle beach. Known for the hundreds of turtle nests that can be seen all throughout the hatching seasons. Turtle beach is perfect for some great snorkeling or walking and exploring some mangrove tunnels!

Post Production 2 - Feature Articles

 I have been analyzing my magazine lately to try and find the best flow for the images and texts to make sure that they are cohesive to present the right image and feel. the first thing that I did was rearrange the page that had the SAND, SUN N' FUN article. In the first version of the magazine I had one of my images that was of a stormy sky above an ocean up next to the title which was in the right column. What I did was move the image down to the bottom, so that the title filled the entire top of the page and then has the article directly underneath it and that has images on the left side and going down and then has a collage of different images in the bottom of the page. On the left hand page I also rearranged the images and added in different pictures of a few locations at different times to convey the effect that the activities I described are perfect for the whole family or the target audience and it is an activity that they can do all day and have fun while being in nature.

Post Production 1 - Title Page and Contents Page

 After the presenting my project to the class and getting the feedback on what they thought would help the overall flow of my magazine I decided to alter a few things on my title and table of contents page. On my title page I decided to alter the selling lines slightly. I added a selling line that stated, " ". I also went back and added some selling lines that are titles of my article of my magazine over the sand of the main image under the larger text that says, "SAND SUN N' FUN". I also went back and added the month and date at the bottom left in a typography that is very sheik. For my table of contents page I completely redid the style. I kept the typography the same but instead of having one main image I broke the page up to have 3 images with little boxes in the right corner of the image with a number corresponding to the articles that I had in alternating cubes running down the right hand side of the page and along the bottom. Creative Critical Reflection - Question 1

 Beyond the Border is a unique product to the travel magazines currently found in circulation. Typical travel magazines such as Travel + Leisure, Luxury Travel and Conde Nast, a few of many examples, target a specific audience and therefore they have a similar trend of conventions. Due to the fact travel magazine companies utilize typical conventions present in current travel magazines, they are highly geared towards two specific age groups. These being the young, around 20 to 25 who are newlywed and do not have kids and then people who have retired and are over the age of 60. However, with both of these demographics in mind current travel magazines do not represent the family dynamic, unless it is a very small toddler or baby. This highlights a current social issue, which is that children and parents are drifting more and more apart in today's society.
